We help communities to establish community ‘Social Cafes’ and other projects that assist people who are vulnerable through isolation, mental health and wellbeing, disability, low income, unemployment, homelessness or misfortune.
Our focus is on communities in the Bega Valley, Eurobodalla and Snowy Monaro shires.
Communities can draw on the Reaching Out Foundation’s experience in establishing Social Cafes in other places and helping communities to help themselves, as explained in more detail in the Social Café Toolbox.
We also partner with other groups that serve the needs of the vulnerable and disadvantaged in our community, with a particular focus on homelessness, in order to ensure that scarce resources are used efficiently.
- initiated the establishment of Pearls Place in Pambula, providing seed funding, assistance to source grant funding and special project funding when needed to assist with food and equipment
- provided funding, advice and support to Ricky’s Place in Bega and Monty’s Place in Narooma, when needed, to assist them to remain sustainable and grow
- worked with the Cooma community to determine need and develop a social café
- purchased a caravan for the Social Justice Advocates to provide temporary accommodation for homeless youth and women and children fleeing domestic violence, in partnership with South East Women and Childrens Services
We are continually reviewing our focus to address the highest community needs and taking a proactive role in emerging issues.
