The Reaching Out Foundation is able to support communities to help overcome social disadvantage through the generosity of our volunteers, donors and grant organisations. Individual social cafes also receive funds and donations of food and equipment direct from the local community and retailers.
We ensure the highest possible proportion of the funds we receive go directly to grass roots community activities:
- all Board Directors are volunteers and receive no remuneration or benefits from the Foundation
- there are no paid employees
- we obtain pro-bono support from professional advisers where possible and only allocate funds to meet legal, regulatory or administrative costs, such as insurance, which cannot be met through a pro-bono arrangement
- we cover minimal out-of-pocket expenses incurred by Directors in carrying-out duties on behalf of the Foundation, as approved by the Chair of the Foundation.
We continually assess the needs of our community and ensure funds are directed to the highest priority needs.
Businesses and individuals from the Sapphire Coast community have provided regular or one off donations, the Lakeview Hotel in Merimbula holds a monthly raffle for the Foundation and we have engaged in some specific fundraising activities.
We hold an annual Shabby Chic Fashion Parade in partnership with four local Op Shops during National Op Shop week. We raised about $5,000 in the first year, 2016, including substantial donations from Morgans Financial Ltd Services and the Merimbula RSL Club. This is becoming a ‘must attend’ event on Merimbula’s social calendar.
We also participate in the annual StreetSmart Australia ‘CafeSmart’ and ‘DineSmart’ promotions with the support of local cafes and restaurants, the media and the local community. In 2016 we received $4,000 from these programs.
